Did you know Bluesky Unveils Plans For Personalized Payment Platform Amid Exciting New Updates
Bluesky is on a roll and recent stats published by the company show how it continues to soar in terms of usage and popularity.
Amid
all the success comes new plans for the future and one of those
includes a personalized platform for payments. The company’s COO shared
the news through an interview where she delineated the power of monetization for users.
As
per Bluesky, if users aren’t making money through the app then it
shouldn’t be either. Therefore, to facilitate ease of financial
transactions and align the different incentives of its users including
the creator and developer community, it’s laying down plans.
The
new payment system in development would ensure payments are done
through the app and also across different platforms so the entire
ecosystem can work as one and reap the benefits. Bluesky cleverly added
that while most users are the ones gaining the majority of the funds,
they’ll just take out their share in the form of a transaction fee.
The
plans are set to come into action next year but no date was revealed.
This is also the same time we expect the app to roll out planned
subscriptions which come in early 2025.
Many
commented on how they feel it would be an interesting aspect to combine
monetization and decentralization in one place. However, others were
wary about the news and felt the app should focus more on the likes of
keeping the platform safe.
In other news, Bluesky just rolled out some exciting updates,
one of which has finally fixed a major issue related to impersonation.
Users get the chance to verify their identity on the app using their own
domains. This means you don’t have to wait for the app to free the old .bsky.social username.
Before,
we saw the entire authentication process make the above username
available so that means users need to keep signing up to secure older
handles if they aren’t keen on impersonators.
The app has long
been busy working to fix these errors about verification for quite some
time now. It became a huge issue after the service showed a large rise
in users in the past few months.
Meanwhile, alarming results
shared in research by Cornell Tech analyzed the entire userbase and they
found 44% of the leading 100 most followed accounts featuring
doppelgangers. For this reason, the company knew the only solution had
to include taking an aggressive stand.
The app also shared more
on prohibiting issues like identity churning where users would begin as
impersonators to get more followers and then alter the identity later to
prevent enforcement actions.
Other than reserving old handles,
the new Bluesky platform features another tab in the notifications
section called Mentions. It makes it all the more simpler to search for
answers in the posts. As mentioned by The Verge, it’s a great new button
where users' replies pop up. This way, they can select them in a linear
fashion or through threaded discussions.
So as you can see, the
app is really making waves in terms of building a stronger platform with
the best features. This combined with monetization could give it the
edge it needs to succeed in 2025.
