Telegram Launches New Monetization Opportunities For Creators On The App

Telegram is getting into the race to attract more creators to the app.

The company just rolled out new monetization opportunities that creators can take advantage of. Amongst those include monthly subscriptions through the platform’s digital currency called Stars. This would give users more access to exclusive content from their favorite creators.

Creators will curate invite links that ensure all users join channels and get payments every month in return for Stars. So the more users pay, the more exclusive access they get, similar to how Patreon works.

The price for content is set up by the creators themselves who convert Stars into Toncoin crypto rewards. Furthermore, they can shift to subsidized advertisements. Moreover, Telegram gets a commission from Stars when a transaction is done through this means. No fixed amount is set up as yet.

Meanwhile, the app is also busy with the rollout for Star Reactions. This gives users the chance to support popular creators. It’s quite like YouTube’s Super Thanks offering or the Tips feature seen on the X app. All Stars proceeds will go to the creators through Reactions.

The latest initiative will build on the app’s current efforts to assist creators earn more funds via the app. Last month, the organization began enabling creators to share paid material via channels. In a few months, the app rolled out ad revenue sharing through creators.

Today, the news comes after the app hit 950M active users in July. The aim to cross the 1B mark in 2024 is also going strong and if things continue at this pace, the milestone isn’t far from reach.

At the year’s start, the app’s founder explained how Telegram anticipates more profits by next year and hopes to go public soon.
