LinkedIn Rolls Out New And Useful Overview Of Its Search System

If you’re a fan of LinkedIn, you might want to get your hands on the app’s latest and useful overview of its search system.

For so long, the company debated on whether or not hashtags were important for the app, especially when it came down to search. Could adding the relevant hashtag prompt your search for greater discovery?

LinkedIn continued to send a lot of mixed signals about the impact tags have on its algorithms. It even phased them out of the creator mode displays. In this latest overview, users are getting a better understanding of how search works on the platform. This includes the concept of using more elements to generate replies to search prompts.

The term used to describe the above is semantic matching. Even if the right keywords were not a part of the search, the algorithm could still respond and find the right match to the query. This just goes to show the app has really transformed in terms of query texts and customization, depending on engagement.

As per the platform, it measures performance through topic matches and dwell time. This shows how relevant it is to the match provided. Furthermore, the app says this gives rise to enhanced discovery.

But does this mean we don’t need to include hashtags anymore as the app’s discovery system is getting great at matches without keywords? The answer is yes!

The new improvements mean you no longer need to add hashtags like before. If you did add a certain keyword to a post, then including hashtags isn’t going to make your post better for discovery.

In short, it wouldn’t be wrong to claim that the app’s algorithm is much smarter than before. It takes into consideration a wide range of elements through posts to align with questions. Even if the right hashtag or keyword isn’t there, systems can still match content easily.
