The arrival of Google’s AI Overviews has never been controversy-free. At the start, so many issues prevailed. It was to such an extent that many hoped the company would delete the feature forever.
After so much negative feedback, Google promised to work on bettering the offering and also reduced its visibility. Now, it seems like it’s back, stronger than ever.
A new study from SEOClarity shed light on data that spoke highly of AI Overviews from Google. Now, its sources are more aligned with the company’s top 10 search results. The overlapping is more than 99% which is a massive change from where we began.
The data is based on an SEO study that considered 36,000 keywords to reach this point. At the start, Google was called out for showing less reliable sources and material from AI Overviews. That’s not the case anymore.
The company has faced more fierce criticism after AI Overviews rolled out inaccurate and dangerous replies to simple queries. The past three months were very daunting but this new change will certainly be appreciated.
The study explained how nearly 94% of all the Generative AI links arose from external sources. This means those outside the usual top-ranking website domain for search. With close to 4.5% of generative AI URLs matching the first page and just 1.6% displaying different URLs from the ranking domain says a lot.
To put it simply, Google is now adding more traditional approaches to its search ranking. This would be a part of the customized Gemini model. So in the end, AI Oveview optimization is like Google optimization. You can expect your website’s content to be ranked high on AI Overviews by ranking high on Google.
