Claude In the Spotlight: Is Anthropic’s AI Model A Direct Competitor For OpenAI’s ChatGPT?

The term ChatGPT is synonymous with AI. It’s to such an extent that most people forget that there are other AI models out there, serving serious competition to OpenAI’s chatbot.

Amongst those include Claude from Anthropic. The model goes head to head in terms of competition with ChatGPT. Its goal is simple. Providing more competition in the AI market and now, it’s making headwaves after hitting the $1 million mark for gross revenue.

The company might market this as a huge milestone and they should be proud but it’s certainly not good enough to be called a record, we believe.

App Figures chart, featured below, shows how swiftly various AI platforms were hitting the $1 million mark for gross revenue.

Amongst the competitors included Claude, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and ChatOn.

Obviously, no surprise here in terms of who wins the race. It’s ChatGPT who managed to strike the $1M revenue target in less than 21 days. Today, it produces $1.5 million per day and continues to grow on that front.

Meanwhile. ChatOn hit the $1M revenue mark in 11 weeks and last month, records showed it grossing more than $6.5M. In third position was Claude by Anthropic. It hit $1M in 16 weeks while Microsoft’s Copilot hit $1M in 19 weeks. We feel the Super Bowl ad really did help it get the right amount of fame and attention to hit the landmark position.

Copilot grossed $678,000 last month and that’s a major difference. Perplexity came in last despite its ambitious plans to replace all searches with AI. After 22 weeks, it reached the one million mark but last month, it grossed more than $1M which is a clear record for the company.

Looking at the statistics here, the question on many people’s minds is how far can Claude grow? For now, the platform looks like another plain variant of ChatGPT that is outdated. To be honest, the two cannot even be compared and we cannot rave about its benefits over ChatGPT either.

We do feel Anthropic continues to make more money from the model by claims about outshining OpenAI’s offering. Now the question is whether or not people will make the switch.

See most of these new apps are trying to make it simpler for users to interact with AI models through text. ChatGPT managed to do that a long time ago and is now everyone’s solution for AI prompts. Apps like ChatOn are riding on the same lines with predefined prompts so AI gets easier to use.

Millions keep getting generated in revenue without actually having ownership of the core tech system. Unfortunately, Claude fails in both these aspects. From the amount of money it generates each month, we feel it might have nearly 25,000 paying subscribers.

Don’t be fooled as it might sound like so much but remember, ChatGPT had 291,000 paying users added by July of this year. Clearly, the competition is tough and the stakes are so high.

For Claude to really compete well against the giants of the AI world, it needs to train and learn more from its competitors instead of copying ChatGPT. Examples include taking simple chat to the next level with actionable offerings. This can add that touch of uniqueness and marketing to the app seriously. Nothing is linked to the model itself.

To conclude, Claude is having difficulty chasing ChatGPT. That’s enough of a lesson to realize that it shouldn’t be doing that in the first place.
