New Snapchat Initiative Empowers Educators with Resources for Safe Online Practices

Snapchat has announced that it has released a new website and features for educators to know more about the app. These features will help educators gain a better understanding of Snapchat use and how they can educate students to keep themselves safe on the platform. This announcement came after many lawmakers were asking social media companies to make their apps safe for children. Many social media apps aren’t doing enough to protect children and there have been many crimes recorded against children which were done through social media. Mental health professionals also say that social media poses a big threat to the mental health of teens.

Nearly 20 million teens use Snapchat in the USA which makes it the third-most used app by teenagers, according to Pew Study. Even though Snapchat has come forward with some features to protect children and teens in the past, their recent announcement is a great initiative to bring awareness in classrooms through educators.

The Snapchat website called “Educator’s Guide to Snapchat” shows educators the use of Snapchat and its safety tools. The website also has several resources which can be downloaded and shared with counselors and parents if the child is facing any issue online such as harassment or bullying.

A resource document has also been released by Snapchat which has all the information educators need to know to increase their knowledge on online activities. The document included tips to promote safe online usage of apps, combatting online issues and making school policies for social media usage. Snapchat is also planning to release a new feature which will give a form to educators so they can share their feedback about how Snapchat is being used by children in schools.
