Did you know Mac Shipments Witness Close to a Massive 50% Growth in Q4, IDC Data Indicates
Now that we have entered 2021 and have yet to see how this year unfolds, one thing that can be said for sure is that the demand for PCs is extremely high. According to IDC’s recent findings, as per BW, the estimate for global PC shipments for the holiday quarter comprised several noteworthy numbers.
For starters, Apple showed the most quarterly growth with a whopping 49.2% increase in Mac shipments. Even though Apple neither secured the maximum overall shipments nor the most market share, its growth over the last couple of months is something to note.
IDC’s findings also indicate that such massive growth in the global PC market hasn’t been observed in over 10 years. Speaking solely about Q4 2020, the PC market witnessed a 26.1% boost in shipments.
As per Ryan Reith (program vice president with IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers), a significant factor behind this noteworthy growth in demand is the increasing emphasis on remote working and learning.
Let’s move on and list down the 5 leading PC manufacturers. By selling over 23.1 million units and occupying a market share of 25.2% in Q4 2020, Lenovo secured the top spot. HP and Dell took the 2nd and 3rd spots respectively. Apple came in next (4th) and managed to sell more than 7.3 million units between October and December 2020.
When it comes to growth, Apple took the top spot by recording a year-over-year growth of 49.2%. ACER group came in next with a 48.3% growth. As for Lenovo, it recorded a growth of 29% between Q4 2019 and Q4 2020.
Apple’s impressive growth resulted in its global market share increasing by 1.2%, equaling 8%. But what’s the secret behind Apple’s impressive growth? Well, Apple rolled out its brand-new Apple Silicon M1 MacBook Air, Pro, and Mac mini during the holiday quarter.
Even when we consider the entire year and not just the holiday quarter, Apple showed the most growth (29.1%) in PC shipments.
Canalys has also published its data that estimates worldwide PC shipments over the holiday quarter. For the most part, its findings match with IDC’s with Apple’s market growth equaling 45% and the entire PC market growing by 25%.
Canalys’ report also corroborates IDC’s findings of Apple’s current PC market share i.e. 8%.
Apple is all set to report its holiday quarter numbers on January 27.
