Max has just confirmed the release date for And Just Like That‘s newest season, and seeing the trailer that was made available recently, this season is going to be full of surprises, for both Carrie and the long-time fans of Sex And The City.
First seen on television on December 9th, 2021, And Just Like That was launched as a revival series that would be the continuation of the lives of SATC’s cast, as they transition into their 50s. The creators originally wanted to give Sex And The City another film, but it was unfortunately canceled and instead, they decided to start the production for a series back in December of 2022. And Just Like That ended up becoming a success, with the drama series recording one of the highest percentages of viewers for the premiere episodes.
The plot of this series featured Carrie, Miranda, and the others still being friends even after being in their 50s. Events of the show take place 11 years after what we see in the original shows and movies. Dating and maintaining friendships was hard when they were in their 30s, but now in their 50s, things get more complicated. Carrie’s husband, Mr. Big, passes away and the whole season documents her grieving journey and navigating through her life with a broken heart.
The upcoming season will have Carrie returning to her old ways with a fresh mind. It is also believed that many of the characters from SATC will be having an exciting cameo in the new season, with the much-anticipated characters being Aidan (John Corbett) and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall). Kim Cattrall had admitted she didn’t want to reprise her role and she wasn’t cast in the first season. It’s not confirmed if she’ll just be having a cameo or would be a regular on And Just Like That.
The music artist Sam Smith was also seen posting pictures from the set of the show. Filming for And Just Like That takes place mostly in NYC. With critics claiming this new sequel didn’t capture the true charm of Sex And The City, it did end up becoming a good sequel for the show, as the characters were shown to be grown up and mature but still indulging in their immature activities at times. Darren Star, who has also produced shows like Beverly Hills and Emily In Paris serves as the creator for both SATC and And Just Like That.
And Just Like That Season 1: Recap
The previous season which began airing on December 9th, 2021, featured Carrie Charlotte and Miranda still meeting up to gossip like the old times. Carrie had married Mr. Big and was shown participating in a podcast hosted by Che Diaz. She has trouble talking about certain topics but eventually pushes through. Miranda and Steve’s son is now in their teens and started being in a relationship. As for Charlotte and Harry, they are still doting parents to their talented daughters Lily and Rose.
Episode 1 shows John doing a high-intensity workout, which eventually causes him to have a heart attack. When Carrie returns home after Lily’s beautiful performance, she is shocked to see John lying on the floor, she holds him affectionately, but he passes away in her arms. A funeral is organized for John, and many old faces make an appearance. Charlotte feels she is responsible for what happened to John, as she had requested Carrie to see Lily perform when instead she could have been at home being with John.
After John’s death, Carrie finds out that he left around 1 million dollars for Natasha, who was his ex-wife. Charlotte’s other daughter, Rose, expresses her feelings of not being comfortable as a girl, which causes Charlotte to talk to Anthony. Now that her husband was gone, Carrie wants their Fifth Avenue home to be gone. She hires a realtor who makes their whole apartment beige.
With having undergone hip surgery, Carrie has to have someone take care of her and Charlotte helps her out. She still attends Che Diaz’s podcast but from her home. Miranda’s friends start noticing her excessive drinking habits and try to get her to go clean. Miranda also develops a crush on Che Diaz and she decides to leave Steve and start a new relationship with Che. While Miranda’s having fun, Steve feels heartbroken, despite the marriage being stale for a long time. Carrie advises Steve on how to deal with the loss.
Carrie eventually finds a date named Peter, but after a disastrous first date, they just don’t see each other together. They later become friends and Carrie is offered to start hosting her podcast. She pours John’s ashes into the Seine River and starts her podcast. Franklyn was the one who offered her the role of being a podcaster, and the duo end up having a relationship after sharing a kiss at the end of season 1 of And Just Like That.
And Just Like That Season 2: When Will It Release?
The new season of And Just Like That… will be premiering on June 22nd, 2023. New episodes of Season 2 of And Just Like That will be aired on Thursdays, and each episode can last from anywhere around 40 to 45 minutes. It will be having a total of 11 absorbing episodes this year, starting with the episode “Met Cute”.
And Just Like That Season 2: Spoilers
The new chapter of And Just Like That will bring in tons of surprises for Carrie, as she finally gets her groove back and tries to try out new things. Her husband’s death in season 1 had left her broken and sad, but this season will feature her trying to get back to her old self and even going out with new people and experiencing new things.
With her friends by her side, she starts a different path in her life and doesn’t want anything from the past holding her back. What Carrie didn’t see coming was one of her past lovers actually making an effort to get back into her life, with it being none other than her ex-fiance, Aidan. The last time we saw this charming furniture maker was in the movie Sex And The City 2, where we’re shown that Aidan was living happily with a wife and 3 kids. Fans of the show who always wanted Carrie to end up with Aidan may finally see their dream coming true.
And Just Like That Season 2: The Cast of The Show
The new season will have most of the old cast members of And Just Like That returning. This includes Sarah Jessica Parker in the role of Carrie Bradshaw, Cynthia Nixon playing Miranda Hobbes, and Kristin Davis as Charlotte York Goldenblatt. Mario Cantone will be returning as Anthony Marentina, David Elgenberg as Steve Brady, and Sara Ramirez as Che Diaz.
The cast members that will exclusively be a part of the second installment of And Just Like That are John Corbett as Aidan Shaw, Tony Danza, Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones, Victor Garber, and Candice Bergen (plays Enid Frick). After Willie Garson‘s death, his character, Stanford Blatch was written out of the show. Although Mr. Big’s death had already been planned, his return for a short scene in the future series was canceled as he was accused of being involved in sexual misconduct.
Tony Danza will be playing the role of Che Diaz’s father, which makes the upcoming episodes a must-watch as it will be interesting to see how the women react to finally meeting Che’s family. Sarah Jessica Parker will continue to be one of the main focuses of the AJLT, and hopefully, we’ll be able to see her reprise this role for future installments. There’s something heartwarming about seeing the award-winning actress return to work on the role that was the reason behind her immense fame.
