The much anticipated 4th installment of the John Wick franchise made its way to the theatres with a lot of fan following and support. It broke the usual norm that movie series with extensions go dormant after a point. With Keanu Reeves as the lead for the movie along with Donnie Yen, the Chad Stahleski directed movie made big bucks right in the very beginning and continues to do so. Within a month, the movie crossed the 100 million dollars earning mark. But a movie rivalling John Wick: Chapter 4 is the new Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The movie has kept John Wick’s 4th part on its toes for the supremacy of box office.

The iconic role-playing game adaptation shot to the top really quick. Crossing the 30 million US dollars mark in the movie markets of the US and Canada right with its opening, it looks to make sure that the approx. $ 150 million budget of it gets covered well and is justified. Even though John Wick: Chapter 4 earned over 70 million dollars, it still does not seem enough to have a decisive lead over Dungeons and Dragons in the near future. Thanks to the great revies by its audience and its critics, the people behind Dungeons and Dragons are sure that the movie will have a lasting impact on box office.

Ever since the start of March 2023, the competition among movies has been hot in the market. Even beyond John Wick 4 and Dungeons and Dragons, other movies have also received quite positive responses from the audiences. Stream VI and Creed III have also made sure that the month of March proved good for them. But the competition between John Wick: Chapter 4 and Dungeons and Dragons is proving to be of another league. Due to both the movies being the only double digit million earners in March, their rivalry is clearly for the longevity of box office supremacy this month.

Dungeon and Dragons Movie Adaptation Performing Well in Box Office

Dungeons and Dragons directors John Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are confident that their work will prove to be a great success. Based on the game that received a lot of love from people, the movie surely resonates with a lot of people who took to playing it. Following the footsteps of the trilogy, the movie is expected to outlast John Wick by numerous sources. While John Wick: Chapter 4’s Friday earnings was $7.8 million, Dungeons and Dragons made $15.3 million. The Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez starrer’s weekend earning predictions still surpass the $29 million predictions for John Wick 4.

Even with such great earnings, somewhere the challenge is still there to make everything of the 150 million dollars used in the production. With reviews above 7 out of 10 on IMDB, it continues to rival the Keanu Reeves starrer that has ratings above 8. The Dungeons and Dragons movie made its presence felt in the markets of Germany, China, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Australia as well. It is these international markets where the Paramount and Entertainment One production has to perform well with consistency. Even though John Wick: Chapter 4 has also reached the same markets, it is still not confirmed whether it will be able to secure its place against Dungeons and Dragons there as well.

As movies adapted from games are shooting to successes with younger audiences, three are great hopes from Dungeons and Dragons as well. With a huge audience of young people between the age groups of 18 and 24, there is a huge chance that the game loving young audience will continue to help the movie steer its way through the competition. Even the upcoming competition for Dungeons and Dragons is a game based adaptation- The Super Mario Bros. Movie. But it has been predicted that even The Super Mario Bros. Movie will not pose much threat to the place D&D has.

As it earned more than 15 million dollars on the first day in the domestic market, the movie has definitely cemented its place as the top contender for this month at least. Now the thing to look for is whether D&D manages to have a decisive win over John Wick: Chapter 4 or the Keanu Reeves and Donnie Yen starrer bags it away.
