Google Cloud and KPMG launch generative AI collaboration

Google LLC’s cloud unit and KPMG LLP today announced that they’re joining forces to help enterprises deploy generative artificial intelligence software.

KPMG is a major professional services provider that specializes mainly in accounting. It also has an information technology business. KPMG’s IT business includes, among other units, a Google Cloud practice that helps companies adopt the search giant’s cloud services. 

“Google Cloud is focused on applying generative AI to practical, real-world use cases that will create value across industries,” said Google Cloud Chief Executive Officer Thomas Kurian. “Through our expanded alliance with KPMG, we will accelerate the application of Google Cloud generative AI throughout the world’s largest organizations, helping them deliver innovation and empower employees, create more value from data, and more.”

As part of the alliance, KPMG will “rapidly train” employees of its Google Cloud practice in helping companies roll out generative AI. The effort is set to place an emphasis on Google Cloud services such as Vertex AI and Generative AI App Builder.

Vertex AI is a suite of managed machine learning services offered by the search giant. The suite includes tools that enable companies to train custom neural networks with less manual work than the task usually requires. Additionally, it offers prepackaged neural networks that can be quickly integrated into enterprise applications.

In March, Google Cloud announced plans to expand the product suite with cloud-hosted large language models. The models are set to become available through a service called PaLM API. According to Google Cloud, it will reduce the amount of work required to equip applications with generative AI features.

The partnership with KPMG will also focus on another Google Cloud offering called Generative AI App Builder. It was announced in March alongside PaLM API. According to Google Cloud, Generative AI App Builder eases development tasks such as expanding the data repository that a chatbot draws on to answer questions.

Google Cloud’s partnership with KPMG will initially focus on companies in the financial services, healthcare and retail sectors. The goal is to help such enterprises implement generative AI in both their front-office and back-office operations. Google and KPMG will also help companies apply AI in their middle office, a financial sector term used primarily to describe investment firms’ IT and risk management departments.
