Light Novel 'Maou 2099' Gets Anime Adaptation

The Aniplex booth at AnimeJapan 2023 announced an anime adaptation of Daigo Murasaki‘s Maou 2099 (Demon Lord 2099) light novel on Saturday, revealing a teaser visual (pictured).

Murasaki won the Grand Prize at the 33rd Fantasia Taisho with the title Ken to Maou no Cyberpunk in 2020. He renamed the work to Maou 2099 and began publishing it under the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko label in January 2021. Kadokawa published the second volume in April 2021.

Shounen Ace Plus began serializing a manga adaptation by Kiiro Akashiro in November 2021.

Yen Press licensed the light novel in English in July 2021 and released the first volume in March 2022. The second volume went on sale last July.

Synopsis

The cyberpunk metropolis Shinjuku—a massive city-state bedecked with neon signs, towering skyscrapers, and the latest cutting-edge technology. It is here, in the year 2099 of the Fused Era, where the legendary Demon Lord Veltol has his second coming five centuries in the making. But this landscape is nothing like the one he conquered all those years ago, for the fusion of magic and engineering has elevated civilization to dazzling, unprecedented heights. Veltol may have been reduced to a historical footnote, but make no mistake…this brave new world will be his for the taking! (Source: Yen Press, edited)
