Martial Master Asumi is the story of 16-year-old Asumi Nito. He is the oldest son of the Asumi Family and the Grandson of renowned Martial Artist Asumi Baku. Nito used to train with his Grandfather regularly. But all of that stopped after his father’s unfortunate demise. A grief-stricken Nito yelled at his Grandfather about wanting to stop training. The same day his Grandfather was found wandering the streets in confusion. He was later diagnosed with Dementia.
Nito still blames himself for what happened to his Grandfather. According to Nito, his father was someone who possessed great strength. But it was not enough to escape death. Nito concluded that being an average person is the best possible solution. From then, he started limiting himself to being the most average person one can be.
The fact that he felt responsible for his Grandfather’s condition did not help his case. Due to his timid nature, he became the focus of the bullies in his class. However, in Nito’s mind, the guys were just being friendly. Nito’s only friend in class was Fuchida Yuya. Fuchida is very athletic but is never given the opportunity as in every club he joins he gets treated as the gofer.
Fed Up with their antics, Fuchida decides to learn MMA or Mixed Martial Arts. Furthermore, he wants Nito to come to try it out with him. However, Nito sticking to his average guy routine, does not want to do it. He tells Fuchida that he has to take care of Grandfather and, therefore he is unable to accompany him. However, Fuchida found a solution to his problem.

Nito explained that he does not have time for extracurricular activities as taking care of his Grandfather is a full-time job. To remedy that, Fuchida found an MMA Gym closer to his home. He somehow convinces Nito to come to check the gym out. However, trouble came knocking when the bullies from before tried to take money from Nito.
That was when Okibe Nao intervened. She started recording them, causing one of them to swat her phone away. Having probable cause now, Okibe goes in for a roundhouse kick, but Nito puts himself between Okibe and the bullies. He was struck and knocked out instantly. Nito woke up at Yoshi MMA Gym, coincidently the same gym Fuchida wanted to visit.
Okibe gave the duo an introduction to the MMA Fight Style. Fuchida was excited to join but Nito, not so much. Since it was almost 5 PM Nito left to take care of his Grandfather, but on the way, the same bullies from before stopped him. They asked him to steal Okibe’s phone as she recorded them bullying Nito and also to lure Fuchida to them so they could beat him up.
Nito, now pushed to his limit, realizes that there is nothing average about the way he is living. He realizes that it’s closer to zero. The bullies, now outraged, tries to attack Nito. At that moment, all those years of training with his Grandfather kicked in. He was able to take care of all of them in quick succession. Okibe, who was silently watching from afar, makes her presence known.
She asks Nito to come with her and says that she wants to spar with him right that second. She recognized that Nito was using several martial arts at the same time to defeat his enemies. In short, he was using MMA Techniques. Even though it was tempting, Nito was more interested in going back to his Grandfather. His grandfather asked how it felt to defeat his first enemy. Nito replies that he feels good but just a little bit.

Look like all those years of training paid off. Nito was able to defeat someone almost twice his size with ease. Furthermore, Okibe now wants to spar with him after seeing his skills. I am sure Fuchida will be the most surprised as he did not know Nito was this skilled. However, the consequences of his actions might be imminent as the Bullies might try to retaliate after their embarrassing defeat against someone whom everyone considered weak.
