New Turtle Beach Headset Uses Two Dongles to Solve a Very Common Problem

Turtle Beach is revamping its Stealth 700 gaming headset and finally giving gamers who have both an Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5 what they’ve always wanted: a headset that works painlessly on both consoles. This is the Gen 3 version of this headset, which launches on September 22nd. It’s available for pre-order today.

The Stealth 700 Gen 3 will be available in Xbox, PlayStation, and PC versions. The only major difference is that the Xbox version is compatible with PlayStation and PC, apart from Xbox, while the PlayStation and PC versions aren’t compatible with Xbox. I know it’s kind of confusing. The other not-so-important difference is in their color variants. The Xbox headset is available in Black and Cobalt Blue, the PlayStation in Black and White, and the PC in just Black.

All three headsets come with two USB transmitters and a button that allows easy switching between platforms with just one click. Most current gaming headsets don’t usually allow Xbox and PlayStation to talk to each other. This will finally give gamers a single headset that should fulfill their cross-platform needs.

Logitech attempted to resolve that with its Astro A50 X Lightspeed, which requires you to plug your consoles into a base station that acts as a receiver for your headset but is priced at $342 (a new, discounted price at the time of reviewing), the $200 Stealth 700 Gen 3 is still a much better deal and requires a lot less setup.  The Stealth 700 does that with just a pair of included CrossPlay dongles and doesn’t require you to have all your consoles in the same location.

It pairs with your devices with a low-latency 2.4GHz and a Bluetooth 5.2 connection. A pair of 60mm drivers take care of the immersive spatial audio on the device. There’s the same flip-to-mute mic that’s present on several other Turtle Beach headsets, but this one features AI-based noise reduction. The battery life has been given a massive boost, too. The 40-hour life on the predecessor, Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max, extends to 80 hours on the Gen 3, along with quick charging. Turtle Beach impressed us with its Stealth Pro headset, but we’ll have to wait and see if the Stealth 700 Gen 3’s “advanced compatibility” marketing actually delivers peace of mind for gamers.
