It is not everyday that we get to witness something like the volumes of a single manga going completely out-of-stock or in other words facing a shortage in a particular country, especially Japan.
This was the case when it came to Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari’s idol based drama mystery manga Oshi No Ko, as it was completely sold out in bookstores all over Japan.
Manga’s illustrator Mengo Yokoyari also addressed this on her official Twitter account, revealing that the manga has been sold out everywhere and that it might only come in stock in the mid of May, asking the fans to wait a bit more in order to buy it.
“Any guesses on who’s comics are sold out all over? 😂I haven’t checked properly, but I hope they’ll be in stock by mid-May……~~!
It’s frustrating not being able to read them when you want to…just wait a little longer!“
Fans flocked to the comment section of the tweet expressing their frustration on not being able to find the manga volumes in the bookstores, which led them to resort to e-books and kindle.
They also went on to say that the nationwide shortage was largely due to the surge in the popularity of Oshi No Ko‘s anime adaptation.
Oshi No Ko anime started airing in Japan on April 12, 2023.
The first episode of the anime went on to shatter all records to become the top ranked series launched in the HIDIVE’s history.
It also dethroned Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood to take the spot of the top ranked anime on MyAnimeList within a day of its premiere.
Rie Takahashi has been cast to voice one of the main characters and idol, Ai Hoshino.

YOASOBI performed the opening theme song for the anime “IDOL”. The full-length version of the song will be unveiled during the advanced screening of the anime
The anime adaptation is being done by Doga Kobo. The key staff involved in the animation production were also revealed.
Daisuke Hiramaki will be directing the anime, while Saori Tachibana will serve as the assistant director. Series composition will be handled by Jin Tanaka and Kanna Hiramiya will be in charge of character designs.
Akasaka who is the writer of the original manga said that the anime adaptation will be a good work, and asked fans to look forward to it.
Oshi no Ko is a manga series written by Kaguya Sama: Love is War creator Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari, who is author of Kuzu no Honkai. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump since April 2020, with its chapters collected in seven tankōbon volumes as of February 2022.
MAL describes the plot of the manga as follows;
