Revealed: Top SEO Jobs and Secrets to Client Success in 2024!

Aleyda Solis, a digital marketer, recently shared the report of her survey called SEOFOMO after surveying search engine optimization experts on where they are getting their clients, what kinds of jobs they prefer, what challenges they are facing recently and how they are promoting themselves to attract more clients. The survey was done among 337 respondents and is valuable for those who want to get themselves into the SEO business in 2024.

According to the survey, the majority of the respondents were specialized in Technical SEO (64%). Content Focused SEO (60%) was also an area of expertise for many respondents, followed by SEO Generalist (54%). 51% of the respondents were doing SEO Management. Link Builder (14%) and Other types of SEO (8%) were least types of SEO jobs done by the respondents. It doesn’t mean that link building is not an important SEO job, it’s just that link building is a complex and hard job not many SEO experts can do.

Aleyda Solis also shared the data about respondents who participated in the survey. Most of them (44%) were full-time Agency SEO Consultants, 32% were freelancers and independent consultants, 24% of the respondents were part-time SEO Consultants while 6% identified themselves as others. The survey also found out that most of the SEOs work with small or medium sized clients. 49% of the respondents work on websites which have less than 100K URLs while 33% of the respondents work with websites which have URLs between 100K and 1 million. Only 18% of the respondents said they work with larger clients and large multinational B2B companies.

Now the question arises where do these SEO experts get their clients from. Not every SEO can go on social media to advertise their work or speak in front of audiences at industry events. 77% of the responses from the survey said that they often rely on referrals from other companies to get their clients. Some also said that they get clients after ranking in search results. SEOs who have geographic reach tend to get more clients when the website ranks on Google search results. 26% of the respondents said that they get their clients from social media. 25% of the respondents get their clients through events. They speak at these events about their skills and expertise and socialize with potential clients. Some respondents also get clients through Cold Outreach (14%) and Paid Outreach (9%). You can also get clients after discovering how you are comfortable in reaching for clients. Some speak on events, some on social media and some just rely on their abilities to attract clients.
