The thought of publishing an embarrassing post on social media and getting bombarded with ridiculous comments is never a great feeling. But Meta’s Threads might soon offer users a great new feature that prevents just that.
If you ever wish to retract and start fresh with a clean slate, you can do that with the platform’s latest Disappearing Posts feature. Threads were seen working on the latest rollout that gets rid of unwanted comments, replies, posts, and messages that the creator has no interest in.
Currently, X users do have the option to remove X history via third parties but Threads will allow you to do that through its app directly.
You can delete both the posts and the replies that come with it in 24 hours. It would encourage anyone worried about a post’s feedback to be more relaxed because if things don’t go as planned, simply delete them.
The sighting was first discovered by reverse engineer Chris Messina who says the disappearing posts feature would only work for 24 hours and not after that. Also, he claims that it wouldn’t be shared with the fediverse.
A few months back, the company combined with fediverse that included platforms such as Mastodon. By activating this, you were saying yes to sharing on the Threads account so that all posts get distributed for a wider reach.
Many complained that you couldn’t delete posts from here and wished to have a feature that enabled that. For now, it’s not happening with the latest ephemeral post feature but who knows what the future brings.
Whether or not disappearing posts for Threads is going to be launched or not, time will tell. Meanwhile, Meta’s representative did mention how it’s solely for internal posts with no plans to carry out tests externally.
If Threads users did opt for disappearing posts, it would make things so much more engaging as it would restrict their content to limited periods on the platform. As it is, Threads is working on making its app more exclusive to draw in more interest from users across different platforms.
We might also see more people leave the controversial X app of Elon Musk and opt for Threads since disappearing posts aren’t available there either. You can however make use of third-party options like Redact, TweetDeleter, and TweetEraser.
In other news, Flipboard is giving users the chance to follow anyone present on the fediverse. This includes those on Threads so don’t be surprised to see a new batch of audience members storm the app.
Federated accounts are those following an interconnection of servers dubbed fediverse. This entails Threads accounts and Mastodon amongst so many more. And if their accounts are federated, they can also interact with the other users’ posts and take part in chats too.
