YouTube Capitalizes On Shorts Popularity By Testing Longer Clips Within The Shorts Feed

YouTube is experimenting with a new revenue-generating opportunity, after the success seen with its Shorts.

This includes merging longer clips into the Shorts feed to capitalize on returns seen with Shorts in the past. But wait, the news is a little perplexing.

The whole concept of Shorts was linked to short-duration clips. But after witnessing 70 billion views each day, it does make sense how the app is trying to make the most of this viewership across different formats.

YouTube shared a new post on the matter, where it confirmed the new experiment. Now, users can see a mix of different video formats such as long-form content instead of the usual Shorts. Common places include Shorts Feed and feeds for long videos.

YouTube is working hard to get into the popularity that Shorts entails to get more video promotion. But how a horizontal format of long clips will be merged to vertical shorts feeds is a question.

We’re sure the app has all of that planned out and under control but if not, the result will be odd.

For so long, Shorts has been YouTube’s biggest revenue generator. The amount of engagement it receives through the feature cannot be denied. This is why it makes more sense now than before to align recommendations through the format to enhance viewership.

What is even more interesting is to see how users will respond to this whenever the launch is planned.

Meanwhile, the platform did share how more creators will witness longer clips on the Shorts feed as YouTube Shorts when seen in the app’s Analytics. It’s a little confusing at first as the entire concept doesn’t make sense.

Clearly, there’s a plan in place and while YouTube is hush on it, we can see how the goal is linked to promoting longer videos by tailgating Shorts’ success.

It might also give rise to a scenario where more viewing on the app is done through full-screen mode where the feed is aligned vertically. This might be the direction in which the test is rolled out.

How exactly the results come out, only time can tell but we’ll keep you updated on this front.
