A New Way to Discover YouTube Content: Google's Video Summaries

According to Glenn Gabe's Bluesky post, Google is experimenting with a new feature of YouTube which will give users a summary of the YouTube video in the search results. It will be a great feature for users who do not want to watch long YouTube videos and need a quick overview and summary of what's happening in the video. This feature has been rolled out to some users in the past week or so. Users are also getting a new interface that will show quick summaries and key takeaways from YouTube videos.

The feature will appear more consistently on Google search page as more users engage with it. YouTube is currently testing if this feature is going to be useful for users and whether it will meet the needs of users or not. This feature is also going to introduce new YouTube Creators to users because most of the time, users do not watch long YouTube videos of creators they don't know about. If this feature is here, they'll know what the video is about and if it seems interesting to them, they can click on it and discover a new creator.

There will be a highly visual search results section for YouTube videos on Google search and it will feature YouTube content from different creators with summary. When users expand the video, they will be able to see text and image summary of that video created by AI. To get a quick review of the video, the most relevant part from it will be shown to the users according to their search query. If content creators expand their summaries on Youtube videos and the part shown is extremely relevant to what users are searching for, this can make creators grow and be discoverable. This is a big step for YouTube after its UI changes in Google search.
