While doing so, Reiji thinks that it is too late; his mom might have already been asleep, and Kazu is not also there, which means it is just him and his mom left in the home, but at the same time, he hears a voice from deep inside of a closet, who says, “Is that you Reiji?”. Reiji identifies this voice and says that it is Gen’s voice, and asks him when he will come back.
When he tries to go towards the closet, he finds out that there are different garments spread all over the floor, which Reiji identifies that all are his mom’s.
When Reiji asks him if he is in the closet and what he is doing in there, Gen says that Yukoo told him to get inside, and she told him to get in and watch. Gen says that there was a hole in the closet door. Reiji was shrieking while his dad beat and stomped on him, while Yuko and Gen watched.

Gen recounts that Yuko had requested his assistance in helping Reiji, as she had expressed that Reiji’s father threatened to harm him. Gen vividly recalls the intense heat in the room and the copious sweat that drenched Yuko’s body, causing it to stick to him.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the door, Reiji’s cries could be heard as he was repeatedly struck by his father. The situation was so distressing that Gen felt like he was losing his sanity. Gen reveals that during the time when Reiji was going through puberty, he himself was struggling to make sense of things. It was a difficult time for him, and he felt a great deal of shame.
He wanted to erase the experience from his mind and pretend that it had never happened. This is why he eventually resorted to killing his father, as he believed that by doing so, he would be able to finally move on from the trauma and be at peace with himself.

As the flashback plays out, we see Reiji expressing his gratitude to Gen for what he did to his father. He recounts how his mother had told him that Gen had beaten his father and driven him out of town. Reiji explains that he had been in the hospital at the time and that his mother had shared the story with him once he was released.
He had come to personally thank Gen for his actions. Reiji also inquires about his father’s whereabouts, wondering if he would ever come back and if he did, he would have to try to reconcile with him. It is revealed that Gen not only killed Reiji’s father to protect him but also used to stand up to Reiji’s bullies in school, even if they were not targeting him directly and were just joking around.
Whenever Reiji tried to intervene and stop him, Gen would blame Reiji, saying that it was his fault that he was being bullied and that the situation would never have occurred if Reiji were not so weak. Following the incident, Gen found it difficult to look Reiji in the eye, even when he apologized or thanked him. He would just get angry and lash out, refusing to forgive himself for what he had done.
As Reiji began to pull away from him, Gen became even angrier and started to assault him physically. No matter how much Reiji hated or feared him for this behavior, he could not escape Gen’s presence, and that somehow made Gen feel better.

At the same time, Gen says that even if he apologizes to him, Reiji won’t forgive him, but that is still okay. It is okay if he hates him because he hates himself too. Later in the chapter, we get a flashback, where Gen is at a party. We see that Gen asks his father about Yuko and why he should marry her, but his father reveals that he never even made a move on her. He says that there was a guy e respected, and she was his woman, but the guy died very young though. This is why he figured that he should keep an eye out and keep the dirtbags off her.
Gen’s father also says that he might an overdone it, though she was never ever able to find a man around there, and before he knew it, a guy from the outside town snatched up her. When Gen asks him if he isn’t he was in love with her, his father says that he knows only the half-truth and adds that there were guys fighting over her in other schools, and to him, Yoko was basically a goddess.

Cut to the present time, Reiji after seeing her like that gets scared and tries to run from him, but the moment he tries to hold the door, Gen comes close to him and grabs his hand, which Reiji says that he should not do that, he was only there to see if what he said before was even true, and revealed that Gen was in love with Reiji’s mom.
In his response, Gen says that he is right, and not only that, he also tries to sleep with Reiji’s mother, not like he needed to make sure, though. He already knows, but the truth and the truth was also Gen wanted to be Yuko.
Yuko’s lipstick, her clothes, everything that belonged to her, Gen wanted to take. In the past, while wearing her clothes, he thought that he would be able to look as much beautiful as she, but at the same time, he believed that he was disgusting.

Gen says that he gave already killed Yuko, and now he should also die with him. When Gen puts out a knife and tries to kill Reiji, Reiji asks him about his mom, Reiji then goes downstairs to find his mom, but Gen says that he dumped her body into a river.
