James Corden Controversy Explained: What Went Wrong For the Comedian?

Brit TV host James Corden always manages to put himself in uncomfortable spots. Known for his wit and humor that often adds life to conversations, his demeanor in public, comments, and attitude towards people around him added to his celebrity status and put him in the eye of criticism. At the end of April 2023, the Brit hosted for the final time his late show after an eight-year stint where he had a long tradition of interviewing guests from all walks of life.

The host of the popular “Karaoke Carpool”, which had artists like Adele, Harry Styles, and Metallica singing songs while driving a car, is known for some controversial behavior, comments, and attitudes that might’ve prompted his exit from television. So, today we’re going to glance at Corden’s trajectory to try and make sense of it all. How does a dude with a background like that get so much fame and end up getting canned after such success on late television?

What’s The Deal With James Corden?

It’s no secret that behind James Corden’s on-screen persona lies an obnoxious, pompous, and pretentious person who thinks too highly of himself and lets everybody know about it. That’s no secret, as these types of yokels have a knack for being like that. Take for example, daytime TV host Ellen DeGeneres, whose producers swore never to work again with her for fostering a toxic work environment. Well, as it turns out, James Corden is much the same.

From yelling at servers at restaurants for not giving him the “celebrity treatment”, to distasteful comments on topics like sexual harassment, plagiarizing material from Ricky Gervais, unprofessional behavior with production staff at places where he’s worked, and the use of offensive stereotypes for depicting minorities are all things that put James Corden on the spot following his exit from his late-night show, that’s also been failing ratings-wise, which would eventually be the reason why he’s no longer on the small screen.

Corden’s Biggest PR Flops

Let’s kick off with that time James Corden went to the posh restaurant “The Balthazar” without a reservation and demanded the staff to sit him just because he was on television. That episode prompted the owner of the establishment to go on social media and express his feelings for Corden in a no-holds-barred fashion calling him a “cretin”.

Distasteful Jokes About Food

But that’s not the only time fat chub Corden has trouble with food; not only does this chap have problems watching his figure, but he goes and shame those who eat differently than him. We have to recall that time Corden did a segment on his show called “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts,” where he had celebrities like Harry Styles and Khloe Kardashian (who actually spat in a bowl what she ate) eating unusual dishes all while making insensitive comments about those types of food, offending the ones who have those dietary elements as a staple of their culture.

Nasty Weinstein Comments Passed As Jokes

In 2017, Corden made a very bad comment he tried to pass as a joke when he referred to disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein at a gala, glamorizing his behavior while sparking the outrage of Rose McGowan, one of Weinstein victims who called him a “motherf****ing piglet” for downplaying the abuse the producer subjected all those women across the years.

The Feline Failure

Corden starred in the adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webers’s award-winning Broadway play “Cats”. But as it turns out, that movie was a box office failure, and Corden trash-talked it and made bad comments about a project he pushed, making us wonder why on Earth he would express such demeaning opinions about the work of his colleagues and his own.

Tanked Ratings

But it wasn’t these blunders that led to the cancelation of James Corden’s late-night talk show. The PR flops did eventually add up, but the final nail in the coffin for Corden was the fact that after eight years of basically doing the same thing over and over again.

That is having people sing oldies on a car and letting everybody know how amazing and full of himself he is on late-night scheduled television. His viewers got tired of it and watched the important bit on TikTok on IG reels or YouTube shorts while changing the channel to something else. And when it comes to TV, the ratings are the gist of it all.
