S’pore Presidential Election Polling Day to be held on Sept 1

The Polling Day for Singapore’s Presidential Elections this year will be held on September 1, according to the Writ of Election issued by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today (August 11).

Singaporeans will know if they will get to cast their vote or if the election will be a walkover on Nomination Day, which is set to be held on August 22 at the auditorium of the People’s Association at 9 King George’s Avenue.

If there is only one eligible candidate, he or she will be declared the President on Nomination Day. However, if more than one candidate is successfully nominated that day, the Returning Officer, Housing & Development Board CEO Tan Meng Dui, will declare September 1 as Polling Day.

To date, four people have announced their intention to contest the election to become the next head of state. They include former senior minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Harvey Norman Ossia founder and businessman George Goh, former GIC chief investment officer Ng Kok Song, and former CEO of NTUC Income Tan Kin Lian.
