Storyline

To understand what happens in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, first, you need to understand what happened in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a continuation of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order features the following characters there is a Jedi Knight who has retired, whose name is Cere Junda, and the pilot, whose name is Greez Dritus. He is the one who commandeers the spaceship, which is called the Stinger Mantis. They also have a puppy kind of thing that is called BD-1, but it is more of a droid than a puppy.

The villains of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are basically two sisters and are called the Second Sister and the Ninth Sister. With this, they introduce something called the Nightsisters; they are people who are more responsive toward Force. And one thing to remember is that they have ties with the Dark Side.  One of the Nightsisters becomes friends with Cal even and helps him even though she has ties with the Darkside.

In Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, we can see at the beginning that Cal has a day job as a scrapper. While he was on the job, there was some sort of technical issues with the equipment causing his friend almost die, but that is when the protagonist Cal uses his Force to save his friend from dying. This heroic behavior was noticed by the Second Sister once this entire incident had come to her notice. She decides to murder Cal’s friend. She was going to come after Cal too, but then he was saved by Cere, the retired Jedi Knight, and Greez, the commander of the spaceship.

Cere and Greez decide that it will be best if they fly to this planet called Bogano. It was a semi-uncharted planet that had only cliffs and something called bogs in its topology. They were searching for a vault in Bogano, which was a civilization before Jedis lived there. During this entire process, Cal ends up meeting someone called the BD-1. Later we find out that BD-1 actually belonged to Cere’s ex-mentor, whose name is Eno Cordova. Even though they do not use the term mentor in the Star Wars universe, they actually say Jedi Master.

Well, anyway, BD-1 is a droid, and Cere’s former Jedi Master has left a message. Actually, it was one of those holographic messages. Anyway, the message tells Cal that the vault consists of something that looks like a cube that consists of a Force.

This Force in that cube was basically called the Holocron. This Holocron would give Cal and Cere a chance that they never had before. And now they can finally revive and rebuild the Jedi Order. Reviving the Jedi Order was going to be harder than they thought as they still had to open the vault, and the vault would open only with a special ancient artifact.

After loads of struggles and fights with different types of enemies, Cal finally has the vault key that is going to be opening the vault found in Bogano. This is when we find someone new coming called Trilla, also known as the Second sister. She comes and steals the Holocron and goes back to her fortress. Cal then finds out about the entire that had taken place and about the fact that they might lose on being able to rebuild the Jedi Force. So, Cal defeats the Second Sister and then takes the Holocron back.

At the very last moment, Darth Vader appears out of nowhere and then kills Trilla, and destroys the entire castle just to get a hold of him. Cal manages to get out of the entire castle and escape. He then destroys the Holocron completely. This was the ending of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. So, the start of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was an amazing start. So, I will not ruin it by going into all the details but will tell you about all the flights that you need to know about.

Cal Vs Dagan (Credits: Respawn Entertainment)
Cal Vs. Dagan Gera (Credits: Respawn Entertainment)

The list starts with Dagan Gera, who was a villain from the High Republic Era of the movies. Dagan had plans to come back as the new emperor of the Empire. In the end, during the fight, Al and Dagan Gera have hallucinations where Cal sees all memories of Dagan Gera. After the defeat of Dagan Gera, he took the compass from Dagan and took it to their base on Jedha. Once he is there, you can see that the compass is being stolen by Bode. You will later find out that Bode works for the Imperial Security Bureau while also being a secret Jedi.

Bode does not want Cal to be using Tanalorr as his base, so he ends up killing the Cere’s former Jedi Master, Eno Cordova. After killing him, Bode tries to get away with it by trying to run away. Cal tries to stop him, but he even knocks Cal out. Bode has successfully escaped with the compass that was retried from Dagan Gera. He then goes as far as revealing the location of their base to the Empire. Cal tries to catch Bode before he can leave the planet. While Cal is gone, Cere is working to defend the base.

When playing as Cere, you will be working along with Merrin to protect the very dear base. You get to blow things up, and you can be very creative while doing it too.  Well, after some time, you will be meeting Darth Vader. He taunts Cere saying how all the events that took place in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order did not affect his Empire in no way.

Cere Vs. Darth Vader (Credits: Respawn Entertainment)

Cere had a trick up her sleeves and mentioned how she had been preparing for this for a very long time. She pulled a lever, and that was an attempt to confine Darth Vader in one place. Unfortunately, that did not help at all, and it ended with Cere dying. Looking at this, Cal tries to attack Darth Vader, but Vader parries the attack and withdraws for the moment.

Cal falls into a very dark place after the demise of Cere. But he still continues with avenging now. He follows Bode to a planet named Nova Garon, and he visits the Imperial Security Bureau. He learns that Bode has been working for the Empire for the entire period. Cal also gets to meet Bode’s daughter here.

Cal realizes that this was a trap for him and that Bode actually did want Cal to come to the Imperial Security Bureau. Bode had left his tracker just so that Cal could track Bode. Bode expected Cal to destroy the Imperial Security Bureau, and that would free him of his duties to Imperial Security Bureau.

Lucky for Bode, that is exactly what had happened. Cal destroyed the Imperial Security Bureau like Bode had expected him to do so. But Bode got lucky again, considering the fact that he was able to escape from the Imperial Security Bureau just in time to get away from the explosion. This causes Cal to be extremely annoyed. Due to the loss of Cere and then now Bode basically baiting him and getting away. The players playing as Cal are given the option to enjoy the darkness. This leads to Cal getting to destroy things around him. It is kind of an option that is there in God Of War or even Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

While Cal is embracing this darkness and is destroying all the Dark Troopers, it kind of feels like a never-ending loop. But things seem to look up when Merrin comes to Nova Garon. Merrin helps Cal to calm down and brings him back to normal. After that entire episode of rage and everything, Cal gets to know that the route to Tanalorr can be gone by the compass but also with some other alternative route. Anyway, revenge is due, and Bode has retired in Tanalorr. His ties with Imperial Security Bureau were the only thing that was preventing him, and that is gone. He was retiring in Tanalorr.

After solving a different set of puzzles, Cal, with his crew that is Marrin, Greez Dritus, and Stinger Mantis, finally reached Tanalorr. Once they arrived there, Cal started searching for Bode. After finding him, they discuss, and Cal convinces Bode that both of their dreams can come true.

So, now that Tanalorr is available, Cal wants to use it for the people who were rejected by the Empire. It was a place for them to have shelter, and since Tanalorr was kind of hard to reach and only a few people knew how to get there, that would imply that it would be safe for the refugees. Even though Cal tries to convince Bode that they can co-exist and so can their ideas. Bode did not approve of this, and neither did he believe in it as he thought that would make the Empire come to Tanalorr. He tried to prioritize his daughter’s safety.

Bode thinks that the safest option is to kill Cal. So, he tries to pull out his gun and tries to shoot him. But this time, Cal got lucky as Bode’s gun had misfired, causing it not to hurt Cal. Cal was quick to realize what was going on, and he took this chance to shoot Bode twice. And this is how the game ends.

Later Greez Dritus tells you that it will take quite some time for them to make a refugee camp for the people in need. Meantime Cal can go to other universes and do the other side’s missions.

Honest Opinion

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has a very strong story. It has consistency in the storyline. There was no moment where the players felt that the game had become very monotonous or had become very boring. At all times, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has managed to keep the players on their feet and also curious, wondering what is going to happen next. It had plenty of plot twists. And the way the game ended, it definitely looks like there is going to be a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Many players have reported that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is having some sort of issue, but it should be mentioned that this issue is being faced only by PC players. None of the console players have faced any sort of issues as of now.

Respawn Entertainment has gone as far as to release an official statement about how they are trying to fix the issue and have also released a software update patch to fix this issue. As of today, when the article is being written, many players still continue to complain about this issue. That is all the negatives to this game, and now coming to the positives. We have seen many new elements being added to the game, like the Darkness meter, which is very similar to the God Of War Rage meter.

You can now have two lightsabers, one in each hand. This is something new but has not been done for a very long time. Even Cal’s clothing has changed, making it look way better than it did before. The combat has changed but not too much that you do not know what is where and how things are done.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was released in 2019, and ever since then, all the players have been very excited about the release of its sequel, and now that it is here, people are not complaining. It has gone above and beyond, crossing the expectations of people.

Our Verdict

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has an absolutely stunning story, and with the release of the game for the new-gen consoles, the graphics are just mind-bending. It is definitely worth the $69.99. PC players, just be careful and do check out the fact if the bugs are fixed, or else you will not be able to play it even though you have paid for the game.

Our Rating: ⭐ (4.7/5).
