But there are no emotions being expressed in this manga. There has been literally no progression in the character’s relationships for almost 100 chapters, if anything relationships have regressed. So, I very highly doubt the manga is popular for it’s romance and ‘expression of emotions.’ I think you’re WAY overthinking things and the series is only popular because Mizuhara and the other girls are cute, that’s literally it.
How are you so sure that the series is only popular because “the girls are cute”, the only character that has regresed is Kazuya since he was far btter built on the arc the third season will adapt, he surely got a couple of steps back. Other characters? Sumi barely appears and she was the lamest character of the bunch, so not much was lost, Ruka behaves as always, Mami is still as toxic as ever, and Chizuru makes perfect sense to me as to why she can’t be sure for her feelings towards Kazuya. So, what was the regression again?

Because of how big waifu culture is in Japan, duh. And how literally any and all of the advertising and merchandise for the series is around the girls. Also, don’t kid yourself, if you’re still reading this series for the story, you don’t exactly have great taste.

Mizuhara and Kazuya were on the brink of confessing and actually starting a proper relationship during the vacation arc. But during that arc, the author basically hit the reset button on their relationship, hence completely regressing them.
