Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion Episodes 1-3
Hanasaki Rinko gets into her dream university but she is literally pushed into a different world. She is reborn into Raeliana McMillan, a supporting character inside a novel who will die soon. Now, how did she end up in the Duke’s mansion?
The way she forged her path with Duke Noah Wynknight piqued my interest. There’s no romance yet which is fine. The chemistry between the two is still brewing. They are not enemies but they are not allies either…yet. There are a lot of chess pieces references so should we expect a lot of scheming and political machinations? And Raeliana looks like she knows how to handle her game. There are gun references too in the opening and we can see her handling one, which makes me wonder how this will play out in the story. As early as now, Raeliana is offering a different kind of isekai-ed character and I’m excited to see where this goes.
However, the third episode is dragging. And for a makeover, it’s so uneventful but Noah’s expression when he sees her got me. It is a totally different kind of expression than he always wears: the Noah Wynknight smile. We also meet the second guy, Adam, who’s a tsundere while two other guys are mentioned in passing and correspond to certain chess pieces. It’s not clear yet if it’s a reverse harem and I have also not read the source material. And if it becomes one, this may be the first reverse harem manhwa that has been adapted into anime. Do correct me if I’m wrong.
The animation bothered me. Initially, I thought it was the background, but later on, it seems to be the characters’ movements. There is something off with it? And I’m not a fan of faceless background characters in the cafe and party scenes. It’s a good thing that the maids and butlers do still have faces. On the other hand, the opening credits and the songs are A+. The colorful, modern-looking manga-ish parts of the opening juxtaposed with the court setting and dark, warm palettes of the anime.
The verdict is… I’m overlooking the flaws and I’m still looking forward to the anime, particularly the story proper and the characters. How about you?
