What Is $100,000 Pyramid About?

Two teams, consisting of a celebrity and a contestant, engage in rounds of giving verbal clues. Each round comprises six categories, with one person from each team having a specific amount of time to describe words or phrases belonging to a category to their partner.

Points are awarded for every correct answer, with both teams taking turns until all six categories have been played. In case of a tie, a tiebreaker round ensues, featuring words starting with a designated letter. The tiebreaker goes to the team that obtains more points or correctly guesses all seven words in less time.

Following each round, the team with the highest score proceeds to the Winner’s Circle, a bonus round. The process is repeated, but this time the celebrities switch teams.

Additionally, the game board includes bonus spaces that grant players extra prizes. These bonuses have varied throughout the years and across different show versions. Notable ones include the “Big 7,” “Mystery 7,” and “7-11,” which award additional points if all seven words within a category are guessed correctly.

During the Winner’s Circle round, one player is given 60 seconds to convey information about six increasingly challenging categories to their partner. Players have the option to skip a category and return to it if time permits.

Certain rules apply, such as refraining from using hand gestures or partial keywords. If the contestant successfully guesses all six categories before time elapses, they claim the top prize. Otherwise, they earn money for each category they accurately guess.
