On Thursday, a Barcelona seafood restaurant had some unexpected visitors. A last-minute booking was made for dinner at the Palace Hotel’s Amar Restaurant. While the staff kept guessing who the guests were going to be, they were caught all shocked and surprised by the former American President Barack Obama, the iconic singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen and the legendary Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg!
The booking came just a day before Springsteen and the E Street Band’s concert scheduled for Friday in the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. The restaurant is famous for its food, but even the staff had not expected three incredibly eminent personalities at their door.
The reservation was made only a few hours in advance, said the Amar restaurant’s chef Rafa Zafra. The restaurant staff and chefs even clicked photographs with three of the greatest personalities of our times. Even though the group was tired, it still wanted to try everything, as per Zafra. The group chose to feast on caviar, shellfish, and oysters. Along with the trio, the former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, and Steven Spielberg’s wife, Kate Capshaw, were also in Barcelona.
As told by Rafa Zafra to the Spanish radio station Cadena SER, he was contacted by the world-famous WCK founder and James Beard Award winner Jose Andre. The Spanish-American chef told Zafra that it was a very important table and told them not to say anything.
Then Rafa Zafra did his own investigation and saw Obama coming at a time when Springsteen’s concert was scheduled for the very next day in Barcelona. As per the chef, the group did not shy from drinking a little while feasting. To add a little bit more information, the chef stated that Springsteen was the best-behaving of the elite trio of guests.

As for the photographs, apparently, the security told the staff not to ask the trio for photographs. But it was the former POTUS who entered the kitchen and asked the entire team for a photograph just before leaving. He also praised the meal a lot. The photograph made news when staff member Pol Perello uploaded it on Instagram with the caption: “The pleasure this job brings you!” In the second slide of his Instagram post, Perello uploaded just a photograph of Springsteen and Spielberg standing beside each other.
The Obamas were really eager to explore the city of Barcelona. On Friday, the former president and first lady of the United States explored the central part of the city. Swarmed by a group of security guards, they explored some of the most iconic spots of the city, like the Sagrada Familia Basilica and the Picasso Museum. No surprise, the celebrity couple’s outing made news everywhere one could find. Even on the concert night, Michelle Obama appeared on the stage and sang Old Days alongside Springsteen while playing the tambourine.
It should be known that Barack Obama has had a habit of surprising people ever since his tenure as the US President commenced. He has been sighted in university cafeterias, public eateries, and even the streets of Washington, surprising people. There are numerous clips of Mr. Obama interacting with students, workers, and people from all walks of life while having meals.
The Longtime Buddies
The association between the Obamas and Bruce Springsteen has been there in place for quite some time. The Grammy, Oscar, and Golden Globe winner performed in 2008 for Obama’s presidential campaign trail. It was then that the association began. Then legendary buddy duo even had their own podcast titled Renegades: Born in the USA. It later turned into a superhit book as well.
If we talk about Steven Spielberg and Barack Obama, the association has lasted a long time. In 2015, Steven Spielberg even received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Obama(then US President). Their meetings have often been covered by the media. Ranging from meals in restaurants to the entry of fedora-wearing Spielberg at Obama’s birthday party, the duo has shared an extremely friendly and warm bond. Speculations on new productions and works have also come in talks regarding the duo.
