Chapter 51 of The Raven Duchess shows the political feuds that Melisa got involved in. She starts her day off by asking someone to mend her torn book, which they agree to. The person tells her that they’ll do their best because they are indebted to Winterfeld.
They became vassals for Winterfeld. Their lives were at risk, but His Grace saved them, and they have sworn fealty to him ever since. The person asks her if she knows who the crowned prince hates the most. He hates the Queen the most, who is now bedridden in her chambers.
The queen supports Duke Lewis’ succession to the throne because Prince Roland is not her son. Things started to get more complicated for Melisa, who had no choice but to accept Lewis’ proposal.
